Ecological, Local, Worker-owned
Our shop is committed to selling products that are as ecological and local as we can. Read this blog post to learn what we mean by ecological. By local, we mean we source most products from vendors that are less than a 2-hour drive. As a worker-owned cooperative, each worker has a path to own an equal share of the company.

Contact Us for Landscape Design!
SymbiOp offers Ecological Landscape Design services to the public to help homeowners, small businesses, nonprofits and other organizations alike. Ecological Landscape Designs using native plants provide local habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. Ecological Design work offers a more holistic approach creating customized landscape designs that are more resilient to our evolving climate, reduce stormwater pollution, conserve water and energy, and increase local biodiversity.
Need help buying plants?
Book a Personal Shopping appointment!
Are you newer to gardening and want some extra advice for your next project? Our personal shopper service is perfect for small areas or just "freshening up" a garden corner.
Schedule a 1-hour time slot for an in-store appointment for $175 with our Lead Landscape Designer, and one of our Founders Nutmeg. Personal shopper appointments are great for chatting about your garden goals, looking at images of the site together, and working with you to figure out plant choices that can best suit the project needs.
Customers with the personal shopper time slot also get 15% off outdoor plants for your garden project!
Peat-free Soil!
Peat-free potting soil is a major priority for us. Peat, which is extracted from peat bogs, is a non-renewable resource and a vital carbon sink. Peat harvesting destroys essential biodiverse wetland ecosystems and releases stored carbon. Most potting soils are still peat-based.
Luckily we were able to work with our soil vendor to create SymbiOp's Peat-free Mix, which uses coconut coir instead of peat. Coconut fiber serves a similar function as peat in potting soil - increase water retention, aeration, microbial populations, and nutrients. By choosing our Peat-free Blend, you get the same benefits while removing a large contributor of habitat destruction and greenhouse gas. It certainly won’t fix all of our ecological problems, but it is a step in the right direction! Order this soil online or in-store!
