Plant Description: This plant is a dwarf shrub that typically matures as a dense rounded mound. In late spring to early summer, creamy white flowers (sometimes with a pale pink blush) show up in flat-topped clusters that are 2 to 5 inches wide. Fall may be its prime season, when oval to oblong toothed leaves turn lovely shades of gold, orange, red, and burgundy. The stems of this plant are used in bouquets.

Landscape Use and Ecological Function: This native plant occurs in parts of western Canada, Washington and Oregon, and as far east as Minnesota. This plant has a considerable range of habitat, being found all the way from sea level to nearly 10,000 ft. elevation. It grows along streams and lakes, in mountain grasslands and on the slopes of forests (especially rocky ones) both east and west of the Cascades. Shiny leaf spirea is excellent in woodland and rain gardens, meadowscapes, and conventional or ornamental gardens. Its primary functions are to attract wildlife and pollinators.
