Verbascum thapsus (Mullein) MG

( / )

Mullein is THE herb tonic for the lungs. I use it in any formula that is geared to the respiratory system. They also do not need any of your fancy fertilizers or bagged soil. Instead grow them in that back corner that is in full sun.

Verbascum thapsus is a BIENNIAL growing to 1.8 m (6ft) at a fast rate.
It is in flower from June to August, and the seeds ripen from August to September. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Flies, Lepidoptera (Moths & Butterflies). The plant is self-fertile.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline soils.
It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers dry or moist soil. The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
