Plant Description: This is a fast growing, woody vine with deciduous, delicate green foliage. It has large clusters of showy star shaped, fragrant flowers. They normally only have one flower on each stalk. White fruits in fall have many silky haired plumes forming a large sphere. This plant prefers shade for its roots, and sun for its top, and is completely drought tolerant when established. The more sun it receives the more dramatic the bloom will be.

Landscape Use and Ecological Function: This plant can be found growing on hillsides, mixed-evergreen forests, canyon slopes and in open woodland, in southern and central California and is usually below 6000 ft (1800 m).
Chaparral clematis tolerates more open, drier places. It is widely adaptable, tough, and disease-resistant. This plant is great for the xeric garden.
