Jacob's Cattle Beans go by many names and are related to many cultivars. The red color is most common, but we are gradually selecting for more brown, gold, and purplish hues. High yields for a bush bean. Dense and meaty, they hold their texture well under long cooking, and are often used in soups and stews.

Direct sow 3" apart when the soil is warm, usually around June 1; a late chill can charm beans. Stop watering in August, and wait to harvest until pods are completely dry. If wet weather is coming, whole plants can be pulled and dried indoors.
