Wild Blue Indigo is a member of the pea family and is traditionally used as a medicinal herb. Native to the Eastern US, Baptisia australis is a bushy, woody perennial with purple/blue pea flowers. Roots have historically been used medicinally to treat vomiting, toothache, and acts as an anti-inflammatory, however this plant is also known to be toxic. Flowers can be used to make an indigo dye.
