Plant Description: Native to marshy pockets of the coastal regions primarily in Washington, but also found in small areas of Oregon and British Columbia. Henderson's Checkermallow is a tall growing member of the perennial, up to five feet tall with rosy, deep pink blooms, with each plant containing male, female, and bisexual flowers (bisexual flowers are larger and paler). Leaves are primarily basal and typically toothed, with some leaves lining the tall stalks. Spreads via a thick rhizome.
Sidalcea species have edible greens that can be used in place of salad greens. Leaves contain a thickening agent and can be added to soups. *NEVER CONSUME PLANTS WITHOUT PROPER ID*
