Scirpus microcarpus is a species of flowering plant in the Sedge family. 

Prefers part to full sun and moist to wet soil, can withstand summer drought periods. Does well with seasonal flooding/partial submersion. 

Perennial, evergreen, spreads by rhizome . 2-3ft tall. 

Very valuable PNW Native riparian species to control bank erosion and provides food and habitat to amphibians, fish, aquatic invertebrates, aquatic mammals and water birds.

Often seen growing on stream or pond edges or in swales, wet meadows, roadside ditches and drainage canals that flood seasonally. 

Is one of the few Native species sometimes seen holding its own against the invasive Reed Canary Grass.
