This is a fantastic medicinal and edible perennial for beginner gardeners! As a carefree plant, this pollinator garden all-star drives bees crazy when their flowers open in late summer, and its licorice flavored leaves can be used for tea or in salads or for garnish.

It can be cut back in the fall after the first freeze, though our in-house botanist (Nick) likes to leave it standing for the birds and other creatures to utilize as food throughout winter, cutting it down to the ground in early spring as the young shoots emerge. While it will self-seed if allowed, it is not weedy.
