Jolly Green Tree Collards are a very rare perennial tree collard that was introduced in 2020. It is an uncultivated garden hybrid from Berkeley Farm that resembles a cross between the Merritt Tree Collard, Green Tree Collard, and perhaps even Purple Tree Collard. Between 6 and 10 feet in height, Jolly Green Tree Collard looks to spontaneously branch into a huge shrub shape. It develops a trunk with a diameter of 1 inch within the first year or two. The tree collard is best attached to a strong stake after it is 2-3 feet tall because it can become top heavy in storms and strong winds.With lighter stems, the leaves can grow up to 2 feet long and are a bright to medium green color. They resemble annual collards in texture but grow much larger. Compared to some other tree collards, it doesn't seem to be a big bloomer, which means it is much more productive throughout the spring.
