Here's a unique introduction that comes to us through the Experimental Farm Network. A stinging nettle that has been selected to have less stinging hairs on it! Note that it is not called "stingless" it is called "less sting" meaning it will still sting you, but not nearly as bad as typical stinging nettle that grows wild across the PNW. We love nettle for so many reasons, and use it for tea, nettle pesto, and as a braised green in the kitchen. Super nutritious, easy as can be to grow, and perennial. More people ought to grow this plant in their gardens, and maybe this less stingy variety will inspire them to give it a try! Plants get tall, up to 8' if not trimmed back throughout the season. Early spring emergence, can be cut back several times and they just keep coming back. Homesteader's choice.
