This carnivorous plant soil is mixed in-house as an alternative to peat-based carnivorous plant growing mediums typically available.
Peat-free is a big deal for us, because almost all store-bought soil contains peat, an ingredient harvested from peatlands. Peatlands are the largest natural carbon storages on the planet, better than forests. Peat harvests degrades such habitats. It's nearly impossible to restore them afterwards. This makes common potting soil one of the largest contributors to climate change in the gardening world.
The carnivorous plant soil is our newest addition to SymbiOp's Peat-free mixes, which use coconut coir instead of peat. Coconut fiber serves a similar function as peat in potting soil - increase water retention, microbial populations, and nutrients. By choosing our Peat-free Blend, you get the same benefits while removing a large contributor of greenhouse gas. It certainly won’t fix all of our ecological problems, but it is a step in the right direction!
This carnivorous plant soil is hand-blended in house in small baches as a nutrient-poor and moisture retentive blend for carnivorous plants.
