Plant Description: A charming, spreading native perennial in the Figwort family. Commonly called American Brooklime or American Speedwell, this plant enjoys growing in the muddy/limey stream banks, but will tolerate many other growing conditions that aren't perennially wet, like common gardens. Stems have opposite, oblong pointed leaves and flowers are 4 petaled light purple, light blue, or even light pink, growing in clusters. Spreads readily.
Parts of this plant can be eaten raw or cooked, though best harvested earlier in Spring for flavor. *NEVER CONSUME PLANTS WITHOUT PROPER ID*

Landscape Use and Ecological Function: American Brooklime flourishes in wet environments like moist stream banks, wetlands, wet forest understories, but even in garden settings with regular water. We recommend this species for backyard ponds as a semi-submerged species or a groundcover in a wet area in your garden or food forest. Attracts small pollinators and beneficial insects.
