Plant Description: A very large, fast growing conifer with flat needles and red colored bark. Branches droop slightly while needles turn slightly upward. The very shiny green needles with silver bottom sides are a helpful identifier from some other similar conifers. Cones are dioecious and smell somewhat like oranges.

Usually growing in mixed conifer forests, they can tolerate some shade. Often found amongst Sitka Spruce, White Fir, and Doug Fire
