This North American flower acts as a great cover crop in addition to pollinator friendly garden addition. It is great for beekeepers and is very drought tolerant. It is a perennial and will have to be pulled if only using as a cover crop, but is very easily removable.
Lacy Fiddleneck is a premier Native pollinator species that will draw in droves of bees and other beneficial insects. It requires full sun and will grow in arid, drought conditions. It prefers well drained soil and moderate moisture, though it is adapted to coarse, medium and finely textured soil types. This species is a reliable self-seeder. Lacy Fiddleneck is intolerant of shade and can only handle moderately saline soils. It is a rapidly growing annual species that will work well in areas where temperatures do not dip below 50° F during the growing season (zones 3-10). It will begin blooming in early spring and we have seen it continue until mid-August, when the plants ripen and set seed.
