Plant Description: Cold hardy mat forming cactus. Best in dry berms, rock gardens, or pots with little moisture. Flowers in yellow to peach-pink. Opuntia pads and fruit are edible. Landscape Use and Ecological Function: Grizzlebear Pricklypear grows best in very dry, rocky locations. A cold hardy edible cactus species is utilized by large and small mammals for food and is likewise edible for people. Add to xerascaping or rock gardens in very dry, well draining locations.
