Also known as Horse-heal or Elfdock, elecampane makes a cheery addition to the perennial medicine garden with its large, showy stature and bursts of bright yellow flowers. Definitely a plant that wants to be noticed.

It has been used as a traditional medicine for at least a millennium, generally for respiratory issues and chronic cough. For optimal medicinal potency, harvest the roots in the fall of their second year.
