Plant Description: The beautiful small white flowers of Limnanthes alba grow in clumps making their landscapes look like their are dappled with white foam. Though their flower stem height can reach up to 18 inches, their leaves are basal, pinnately shaped, and highly lobed. Cross pollination is required for reproduction of these plants. We suggest to plant a minimum of two plants, but you will have greater success of long term establishment if you plant three to four plants near each other.

Ecosystem: Found throughout Oregon, White Meadowfoam has adapted to low draining moist soils, and does not tolerate low draining sandy soils well. Their roots are fibrous and easy to divide and replant. They are most often found in or near open low meadows. Their seeds are made up of 20% - 30% oil, making them an excellent source of calories for a large variety of small mammals and insects. Additionally, they require pollination from insects, making them evolutionarily excellent for pollinating species including bees, butterflies, ants, and more.
