Plant Description: Generous clusters of bright yellow flowers with reddish center smelling sweetly of cloves adorn this thornless Ribes in the spring, followed by purplish berries that will make fruit-eating birds happy.

  • Width:  2-6 ft
  • Watering Needs: Low to high. Can take drier conditions than some of the other Ribes, but prefers regular water
  • Sun Needs: Sun to partial shade
  • Soil Needs: Tolerates many soil types
  • Bloom Time: Early to mid spring

Landscape Use and Ecological Function: This native plant commonly grows east of the Cascades. Attracts pollinators, butterflies, and birds. Spreads by underground runners, so give it plenty of space or be prepared to prune or contain it in some way.
