As the Latin name suggests (amoena meaning beautiful or pleasing), this plant makes a beautiful addition to many types of gardens and wildflower meadows. Very showy annual with a long bloom time, provides pollen and nectar when other natives are going dormant. Attracts honey bees, bumblebees, mason bees and butterflies.

- Sun: Full sun to part shade
- Bloom time: June-August (depending on moisture availability)
- Direct sowing: best sown in fall. Seeds will germinate readily in fall and grow steadily throughout the winter. Can be sown in spring (before April), plants will be shorter.
- Growing transplants: Seeds do not exhibit dormancy but germinate best in cool temperatures (50-65 degrees).
