This short, compact plant has foliage like an iris with small blue-ish-purple flowers. The flat flowers open in full sun and close in evening. Attracts native sweat bees, mining bees, and is a nectar source for skipper butterflies. Works well in borders or where a tidy appearance is desired.

Direct sow: best sown in early fall. Seeds need a natural cycle of 2 weeks of warm fall temperatures followed by winter in order to break dormancy and germinate in the spring.

Transplants: seeds can be sown in containers in late summer and left outside over winter.
